After playing golf both recreational and competitive for over 60 years. I now understand what “adaptive golfing” is.
By experiencing first hand , health issues and limited mobility affecting playing golf and understanding golfers with health issues
or mobility limitations are going through.
Most people think it’s just individuals that are paraplegic or have loss of a limb are what an adaptive golfer is.
However, an adaptive golfer description from the USGA relates to anyone that has physical or sensory challenges, temporary or permanent health conditions or age related challenges to participate in the game of golf.
I have now joined this rising number of members of the adaptive golfers statistics.
How and Why?
I experienced a sciatica nerve episode in February 2023..
This experience affecting my joints throughout my body and causing major back issues. Quickly my new lifestyle was a dependency on walkers and wheelchairs.
Because of health conditions involving arthritis & neuropathy have been getting progressively worse.
When this occurred, I immediately realized my future golf experiences with family and friends were in jeopardy .
No way was I going to let this happen.
My primary concerns was knowing how many times I had difficulty twisting, standing, sitting or bending and how that would affect my golfing experience.
I was determined to get back on the course and my research study to help me do so began in April of 2023.
