After facing health challenges In February 2023 .
I had to stop playing golf after 60 years as an avid golfer, a former collegiate golfer, and a golf instructor. I embarked on a personal journey to find a way to return to the sport I love.
Through extensive research, I managed to achieve this goal in less than 5 months. Determined to adapt my game and continue playing at my best with health issues as a golfer.
I established HHGR (Helping Hands Golf Resources) to share my experiences and help other golfers regain their ability to play.
Our mission at HHGR is to provide free information, resources and support to golfers facing temporary or permanent health issues or mobility limitations.
HHGR research products available in the market, test in real golf situations. HHGR offers access to research portals, blogs, YouTube channels and other resource sources.
An adaptive golfer description from the USGA relates to :
In the 2010 United States Census Bureau report, it indicated that over 57 million citizens have some type of disability.
Of that number based on health issues tracked on the survey, and further reviewed by a study by the National Center of Accessibility at Indiana University. Reported 22% were golfers but no longer golfing, 10% were golfers still playing and 35% wanted to learn how-to play golf.
This study initiated the National Adaptive Golf Movement. Directed at many individual's with more extreme health issues or mobility limitations. The support programs spotlighted on the HHGR website discuss the top organizations in the country .
HHGR supports this level of adaptive golfers as well as any golfer that experiences either a temporary or permanent health issue or mobility limitations.
Providing obstacles they need to conquer to continue to play golf or learn to play golf.
HHGR is also looking into new strategies and product development of golfing aids for Able Golfers to use as a preventative health measure.
Excessive bending or full arc swings are now being looked at from both the medical research perspective and the PGA development of the single plane golf swing.
Statistics are increasing of the type of patient a physical therapists, chiropractors as well as other orthopedic specialists are treating and a high percentage are golfers.
HHGR goal is to make sure that all golfers will be able to learn more through research and solutions to help them continue to play golf for many years to come.
