What They Do
Despite the more than 61 million individuals living with physical, cognitive, sensory, health, and age-related handicaps in the United States, those with different needs have incredibly limited access to the resources they need in order to pursue golf.
While some technologies and programs do exist, most are inaccessible to those who need it the most or serve as one-size-fits-all solutions, attempting to address a community where no two individuals are alike.
Their mission as an organization
is to re-imagine golf to allow any and everyone to discover the incredible benefits the game has to offer.
They host accessible golf clinics across the country, as well as training for golf instructors and course operators interested in better equipping their facilities to support golfers of all different abilities.
The VGA is dedicated to enriching the lives of Veterans and their family members through the camaraderie and sportsmanship of golf. Annually, the VGA hosts more than 450 local tournaments across the country, culminating in a VGA National Championship each fall.
Each state has its own chapter . On the VGA website you can access information about Chapters on their site menu. Click the menu item and a map indicating organization regions by state are provided.
Don’t hesitate to learn more about what is happening in your community and how you or a family member can become involved.
United States Adaptive Golf Alliance
A national coalition of leading adaptive golf organizations working together to grow the game of golf for the special needs community. Founded in 2014, the United States Adaptive Golf Alliance:
PGA HOPE (Helping Our Patriots Everywhere) is the flagship military program of PGA REACH, the charitable foundation of the PGA of America.
PGA HOPE introduces golf to Veterans and Active Duty Military to enhance their physical, mental, social and emotional well-being.
The program introduces the game of golf through a developmental 6-8 week curriculum, led by PGA Professionals trained in adaptive golf and military cultural competency. All programs are funded by PGA REACH and supplemented by PGA Section Foundations, so the cost of programming is free to all Veterans.
PGA HOPE has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), which enables direct referrals to the PGA HOPE program as a form of therapy.
